“What goes in must come out!”

So there I was, eating curry in a serve ware shaped as a toilet. I had finally arrived, Modern Toilet: a novelty restaurant with a toilet theme. While most Westerners would find the theme disturbing, the Chinese find it playful and creative.

Hip hop through the doors and find a seat on a toilet. On that day, I decided to be sitting in the sauna section. It was creative. Surrounded by wooden panels and a thermostat, I was ready to place the order.

No details are missed in this theme restaurant. Arriving piping hot, the curry carries savory sweet tones, but the sauce tasted flat lacking seasoning. Scooping the sauce from a toilet shaped serve ware just did not excite my appetite, but points should be given for creativity.

Also, the rice lacked pillowy texture while the soup just did not excite the appetite.

My milk tea was served in a baby blue urinal, and the tea leaves were noticeable fragrant.

The lasagna arrived in a bath tub serve ware. Lacking the nutty notes from burnt cheese, the lasagna was a miss. The sauce lacked the tangy sweet notes from a great sauce.

Just as I was enjoying my meal, the giggles radiated throughout the restaurant. I hear young customers giggle at the creative theme dishes especially their chocolate ice cream swirl shaped as poop.

The restaurant is worth visiting just to experience but don’t expect much from the food. My tip is go for their lunch special.

Restaurant Consultant Tip.Novelty restaurants such as Modern Toilet are hard to scale (grow to more locations). Diners are not likely to visit these restaurants unless it is for a special event such as birthday and other celebrations.
