When you visit Hong Kong, Times Square in Causeway Bay is a must visit. The jumbo television highlights the landmark. But just right around the corner, Ho Hung Kee Congee & Noodle Wantun Shop quietly serves up delicious Chinese food.
Recommended by a local foodie, Hon Hung Kee appears to be like every other won ton house. A chef working in the front of the restaurant, poaching won ton and noodles. But the main difference is the culinary skills.
Arriving piping hot, the rice noodle egg shrimp is just magnificient. Crunchy shrimp just pairs so well with velvety rice noodles. A mix of kidney and lover bathes in congee (porridge). Made with crunchy scallions, the beef noodle vermicelli is another solid choice.
In Chinese culinary world, wok – fire is the term used to describe great cooking. At very high heat, food is cooked for a very short period of time. The result is an aroma that gives ingredients character.
As I previously blogged about, food from Café de Coral produces food that does not have wok-fire since the food has often been sitting on the heat for a long while.
